In preparation for the November 2026 midterm elections, Anthropic plans to update its Claude AI chatbot with official U.S. voting information and election results. Announced on October 14, this initiative aims to provide users with reliable data on voting procedures while minimizing the risk of misinformation related to elections.

The update will leverage data from Democracy Works, a nonprofit organization that compiles voting information from state and local election authorities. When U.S. users inquire about voting through Claude, the chatbot will reference this comprehensive database to deliver pertinent information. The update is expected to be available to users later in October, well before voters head to the polls.

Anthropic’s initiative also includes the integration of election results into the chatbot, providing users with easy access to electoral outcomes. This move underscores the company’s efforts to position Claude as a trustworthy source of election-related information, steering clear of candidate endorsements or voting recommendations.

According to Anthropic’s analysis of 250,000 U.S. conversations, discussions surrounding politics, public policy, and social issues make up about 5.75% of interactions on its platform. Conversations specifically about elections account for approximately 0.51%, with inquiries about voting recommendations being even rarer at around 0.01%.

As Election Day nears, Anthropic anticipates a rise in election-related queries. The update aligns with broader industry efforts to enhance the accuracy and reliability of information provided by AI chatbots during significant political events. The 2026 midterm elections will determine numerous seats in the U.S. Congress as well as various state and local positions, making access to reliable voting information crucial for voters.
