US Resumes Sharing Intelligence on Russian Missile Threats with Ukraine, Zelenskyy Reports

by admin477351

The United States has reinitiated the sharing of intelligence with Ukraine concerning Russian missile attacks, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. This announcement followed discussions between Zelenskyy and US envoy Steve Witkoff in Norway. The renewed intelligence cooperation is expected to provide Kyiv with advance warnings of ballistic missile strikes, thereby enhancing the protection of civilians.

Zelenskyy expressed his gratitude towards Washington, emphasizing the importance of early warnings for the safety of Ukrainian citizens, including children and adults. He noted that the intelligence sharing could play a crucial role in saving lives amidst ongoing Russian assaults.

This development comes at a time when relations between the US and Ukraine are strained due to disagreements over future US military support and the peace process in the Russia-Ukraine conflict. While US President Donald Trump has advocated for a peace agreement, Ukraine maintains that any settlement must uphold its sovereignty and include its participation in negotiations.

In addition to discussing intelligence sharing, Zelenskyy raised concerns about constraints on Ukraine’s military communications and the need for more Patriot air defense interceptors. He indicated a willingness to consider halting long-range attacks on Russian oil refineries if the US supplies additional Patriot missiles to bolster Ukraine’s defenses.

Meanwhile, Russian military actions persist across Ukraine, with reports of at least nine fatalities on Tuesday. Among the victims were three individuals who died when a Russian drone hit vehicles on the Kyiv-Odesa highway, leaving four others injured.

Although the resumption of intelligence sharing is a positive development for Ukraine’s defensive capabilities, uncertainties remain regarding the level of future American military assistance and the potential for a negotiated resolution to the conflict. Witkoff’s diplomatic mission, which includes a scheduled meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, aims to explore potential pathways for negotiations, although significant differences persist over the terms of a peace settlement.
