Filming is underway for “John Rambo,” a new prequel delving into the early life of the iconic action hero, well before his debut in the 1982 film “First Blood.” The production team has chosen diverse locations across Thailand, including Bangkok, Krabi, Phang Nga, and Kanchanaburi, to capture both urban and rugged settings that will depict the origins of John Rambo’s character.

Taking on the young Rambo role is actor Noah Centineo, stepping into the shoes of the character originally made famous by Sylvester Stallone. The project is helmed by director Jalmari Helander, who is recognized for the action thriller “Sisu,” with a screenplay penned by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani. This prequel seeks to uncover the formative events that molded Rambo into one of cinema’s most enduring action figures.

Specific plot details are still under wraps, but the narrative is anticipated to focus on Rambo’s early years and the significant occurrences that set him on his future path. The production boasts a team of seasoned filmmakers and producers, with Sylvester Stallone himself contributing as an executive producer. Collaboration efforts include several major production companies joining forces for this venture.

The Rambo franchise has long been a powerhouse in Hollywood’s action genre, with five films in its catalog and a global earning of over $800 million. This new prequel represents the first substantial effort to explore the character’s backstory, aiming to introduce a younger version of the legendary soldier to today’s audiences. “John Rambo” is on track for a 2027 release, promising to offer fresh insights into the life of the beloved action hero.
