In a significant development for healthcare in Northeast Florida, the UF Health Durbin Park expansion has been completed with the support of Stellar, a key player in the construction industry. Situated on a sprawling 42.5-acre site in St. Johns County, the new health and wellness campus aims to enhance access to advanced medical services for the region’s growing population.
The first phase of UF Health Durbin Park includes a three-story, 72,000-square-foot medical office building and a five-story, 220,000-square-foot hospital. These facilities, located within the burgeoning Durbin Park community, are set to provide a range of medical services. The medical office building consolidates multiple specialty services such as general surgery, gynecology, heart and vascular care, laboratory services, neurology, neurosurgery, orthopedics, outpatient rehabilitation, pain management, and urology. Stellar played a pivotal role as the primary construction manager for this phase, while Gresham Smith handled the design work.
Adjacent to this, the UF Health Durbin Park Hospital boasts 99 inpatient beds and a 24-hour emergency department. The hospital is equipped to deliver acute, intensive, and emergency care, featuring operating rooms, advanced imaging capabilities, and hybrid laboratories for interventional procedures. Stellar, in collaboration with Batson-Cook Construction, provided comprehensive project management services for this endeavor.
The construction of a standalone central energy plant, which supplies essential infrastructure to the campus, was also managed by Stellar. This development forms a part of a broader $1 billion investment by UF Health Durbin Park, which is projected to generate around 2,000 jobs in the area.
By facilitating the expansion of UF Health Durbin Park, Stellar has reinforced its involvement in major healthcare construction projects and strengthened its ongoing partnership with UF Health. The development is strategically positioned to meet the healthcare needs of residents in St. Johns County and Jacksonville, addressing the demands of a rapidly growing population.
